Congratulations to Sydney artist, Roman Longginou, who has been voted the People’s Choice at this year’s Adelaide Perry Prize for Drawing Exhibition of Finalists. The works of 40 finalists, selected by artist, writer and curator Imants Tillers, went on display in March at the Gallery, and visitors were invited to cast a vote for their favourite.

Of his stunningly executed charcoal and pencil on paper work entitled Tension, the artist explains ‘Tension leans into the tradition of vanitas painting. I depict a red striped shirt under intense strain, caught in a place of crisis. The result conjures a human figure unravelling due to unseen but extreme and opposing circumstances. With hyper-real verisimilitude, Tension reveals the illusory nature of human appearances and their fabric-like fragility when placed under pressure.’

Congratulations Roman!
