1. The Prize

The Adelaide Perry Prize for Drawing is a $25,000 acquisitive award recognising excellence and ambition in contemporary drawing across Australia. The winning work will become part of the PLC Sydney Collection.

A $2,000 non-acquisitive People’s Choice Award will also be awarded from the exhibition of finalists.

2. Eligibility

The Prize is open to Australian citizens and permanent residents of Australia, as well as New Zealand citizens permanently living and working in Australia.

Entrants must be the original artist and creator of the work submitted.

PLC Sydney reserves the right to request evidence of eligibility where required.

3. Eligible Works

Works must have been completed within the 12 months prior to the closing date for entries.

The Prize is open to contemporary drawing practices across a range of media and approaches. Two-dimensional, three-dimensional, animated and moving-image works may be submitted, provided they meet the requirements below.

All works must be suitable for exhibition within a school environment and appropriate for an audience aged 4 years and over.

PLC Sydney reserves the right to decline a work considered unsuitable for the school context.

4. Size Requirements

The unframed size of a 2D work must not exceed 1.5m² (15,000 square centimetres), for example, 1m × 1.5m.

Three-dimensional works must not exceed one cubic metre.

Animated and moving-image works must not exceed five minutes in duration. Artists submitting moving-image works must complete the online form and then contact AdelaidePerryGallery@plc.nsw.edu.au directly to arrange file sharing.

Artists are responsible for ensuring that their work can be safely received, handled and installed within these limitations.

5. Number of Entries and Entry Fee

Each artist may submit a maximum of two entries.

A non-refundable entry fee of $50 AUD, including GST, is payable for each entry.

6. How to Enter

Entries must be submitted online via the official Adelaide Perry Prize entry form by the published closing date.

All required fields must be filled and uploads must meet the file specifications stated on the entry form:

• the artist's contact details;
• an artist CV or brief biography;
• an artist statement about their drawing practice;
• details of the submitted work, including title, medium, date and dimensions;
• two digital images of the work — one showing the work in its entirety and one detail image; and
• payment

After submitting payment, entrants are responsible for checking their email for a receipt from Adelaide Perry Gallery, confirming that their entry has been successfully lodged in its entirety.

7. Selection of Finalists

The Judge will select approximately 40–45 finalists from the submitted entries. The Judge's selection of finalists is final.

Finalists will be notified in writing and announced through Adelaide Perry Gallery's official communication channels.

Only artists selected as finalists will be contacted regarding the delivery of their work for exhibition.

8. Finalist Exhibition

Finalist works will be exhibited at Adelaide Perry Gallery, PLC Sydney, on the dates published for the relevant Prize year and must be available for exhibition for the full duration of the exhibition period.

Finalist works must be delivered to the Gallery by the date specified on their notification letter.

Works submitted for exhibition must be suitably framed or prepared for safe handling and hanging, unless otherwise agreed with the Gallery.

Artists are responsible for the costs of transporting their work to and from the Gallery.

9. Insurance, Risk and Liability

Artists are responsible for arranging appropriate insurance for their work, including during transportation to and from the Gallery and for the duration of the exhibition.

While Adelaide Perry Gallery and PLC Sydney will exercise reasonable care in handling finalist works, they accept no responsibility for loss or damage to works while in transit or in the Gallery's custody, except to the extent required by law.

Artists are responsible for ensuring that works are appropriately packed and protected for transportation.

10. The $25,000 Acquisitive Prize

The Judge will select one winning work to receive the $25,000 Adelaide Perry Prize for Drawing.

The Prize is acquisitive. By accepting the Prize, the artist agrees that ownership of the winning work will transfer to PLC Sydney, and the work will become part of the PLC Sydney Collection.

The $25,000 Prize constitutes the purchase price for the winning work.

The winning work will not be available for sale to the public following the award.

11. People’s Choice Award

The $2,000 People’s Choice Award is non-acquisitive.

The People’s Choice Award will be determined through voting associated with the finalist exhibition, in accordance with the voting process established by Adelaide Perry Gallery.

The People’s Choice Award does not result in the acquisition of the winning work by PLC Sydney.

12. Sale of Finalist Works

Finalist works may be offered for sale during the exhibition, subject to the artist's instructions.

The Adelaide Perry Gallery receives a 20% (GST incl.) commission on works sold through the exhibition.

Artists must provide a sale price or indicate that the work is not for sale (NFS) when completing their entry.

The catalogue sale price should include GST, if applicable, and the Gallery's commission. Adelaide Perry Gallery honours a 50/50 split-commission with a commercial gallery, where it has been granted by the entrant to act as consignor of the work for sale.

13. Reproduction and Promotional Rights

By entering the Prize, finalists grant PLC Sydney and Adelaide Perry Gallery permission to reproduce images of their submitted work for non-commercial promotional, educational, archival and publicity purposes relating to the Adelaide Perry Prize, Adelaide Perry Gallery and PLC Sydney.

This may include reproduction in print, digital media, websites, social media, catalogues, publicity materials and educational resources.

The artist retains copyright in their work.

14. Collection and Return of Works

Finalists must collect their works within the collection period specified on their notification letter following the exhibition.

Artists are responsible for arranging and paying for the return transportation of their works.

Works that are not collected within the specified period may incur storage or other reasonable costs. Adelaide Perry Gallery will contact the artist before taking any further action in relation to an uncollected work.

15. Disqualification

PLC Sydney reserves the right to withdraw or disqualify an entry or finalist where:

• the work does not meet the eligibility or size requirements;
• the entrant has provided false or misleading information;
• the work is not the artist's original work;
• the work was completed outside the permitted period;
• the entry fee has not been paid;
• the work is unsuitable for the school context; or
• the entrant otherwise fails to comply with these Terms & Conditions.

An entry fee will not be refunded where an entry is disqualified.

16. Judging

The Prize will be judged by the appointed Judge.

The Judge's decisions regarding the selection of finalists and the winner are final.

No correspondence will be entered into regarding the Judge's decisions.

17. Privacy

Personal information collected through the Prize entry process will be handled in accordance with PLC Sydney's applicable privacy policies and used for purposes associated with administering and promoting the Adelaide Perry Prize, the finalist exhibition and related Gallery activities.
